Easy mode clears groups of two or more.

How to Play Word Puzzle
  1. Easy clears two or more connected tiles of the same color. Hard requires at least three, so pairs do not clear. Connections go up, down, left, or right.
  2. Tiles above the cleared group fall down, then new tiles enter from the top.
  3. Valid clears add score and reveal progress. Hard reveals more slowly. Longer answers reveal faster; the last letter always stays hidden.
  4. Daily offers 20 mixed puzzles. Practice lets you choose Countries, Animals, Space, Food, Nature, Everyday objects, or Surprise Me.
  5. Submit an English answer at any time. Case, outer spaces, and repeated spaces do not affect matching.
  6. Both difficulties give 20 moves. Wrong guesses use a move; empty guesses do not. Daily progress is separate for each difficulty.
  7. After move 20, you get one final guess. An incorrect final guess or choosing to reveal the answer ends the round.
When does the next letter appear?

A valid clear of 2–3 tiles earns 1 reveal point, 4–6 earns 2, and 7 or more earns 3. Pairs are not valid in Hard. For answers up to six letters, each reveal needs 3 points in Easy or 5 in Hard. Longer answers use the base threshold × 6 ÷ letter count, rounded to the nearest whole number, with a minimum of 1. The last letter stays hidden. Stuck? Open the clue; your result will show that you used it.

Scoring

Each tile earns 10 base points. Groups of four or more add 20 points per extra tile in Easy and 35 in Hard. Wrong guesses cost 25 points in Easy and 35 in Hard, with a floor of zero. Each clear is capped at 70 points in Easy or 80 in Hard. A wrong guess also costs one move. Solving earns 500 points, plus 100 per move left and 15 per hidden letter. Once you know the answer, guessing now always scores more than clearing again.

Hints and keyboard controls

The first round includes a gentle hint. After about 8 seconds in Easy or 10 in Hard, one group that meets the active minimum is marked. Hints do not expose the answer. Reduced motion changes the cue to a static outline.

Use Tab to reach the board, arrow keys to move between tiles, and Enter or Space to clear a group. Tab also reaches the answer field and other controls.

How do the daily puzzles work?

Each local date has a fixed set of 20 mixed puzzles per difficulty. The 300 answers rotate over 15 days without overlap on adjacent dates in the same difficulty. Only the first result for each puzzle counts, including giving up; replays cannot replace it. Finished puzzles are saved, and refresh opens the next unfinished Daily puzzle; unfinished boards restart. A round spanning midnight keeps its original date; new rounds use the new date. Practice remembers each difficulty and category pool and announces a new cycle when it runs out, with no round limit. Practice can overlap Daily, but Surprise Me avoids your last answer.

What kinds of words can I play?

300 distinct answers: Countries 50, Animals 60, Space 30, Food 60, Nature 40, Everyday objects 60. Vocabulary labels are separate from Easy and Hard board difficulty. Practice has no round limit, but answers repeat after a pool is exhausted.
